The Young Women activity program can be structured according to local needs
and cultures. Activities should be varied and balanced giving young women
an opportunity to develop a variety of skills and talents. Well-planned Mutual
activities play an important role in the lives of youth. When planning Mutual
activities consider the needs and desires of the youth and the goals of parents
and priesthood leaders concerning the youth. Mutual activities provide youth
an opportunity to:
- Give service
- Prepare for missionary work and the temple
- Develop home arts skill
- Develop cultural awareness, nurture talents
- Develop physical skills and participate in sports
- Focus on the specific needs or interests of the young women in the branch
- Support and involve the family as appropriate
- Work on Personal Progress
Ward Young Women activities are planned by class presidencies, the ward Young
Women presidency, and advisers. As needed, they are coordinated in ward council
meetings.
Leaders ensure that activities are appropriate for the participants’ ages
and maturity, involve minimal risk, and allow all young women to participate
as fully as possible. Leaders also ensure that activities comply with the policies
and guidelines in the “Activities” section of the Church Handbook of Instructions (see pages 276–80).
These policies address matters such as acceptable and unacceptable activities,
standards at activities, overnight activities, dances, music, emergencies,
and insurance.
