An important part of a young woman's preparation for adulthood is the development of leadership skills and qualities. Leadership experiences prepare young women to be fully active members of the Church today and always.
"Today's youth are the fathers, mothers, and Church leaders of tomorrow" (Guidebook for Parents and Leaders of Youth [2001], 27). We are training our own replacements!
Every young woman will not serve in a class presidency, but all young women can serve in their homes.
"It is mothers who set the tone of the home . . . [and] most directly affect the lives of their children. It is mothers who teach infants to pray, who read to them choice and beautiful literature from the scriptures and other sources. It is mothers who nurture them and bring them up in the ways of the Lord. Their influence is paramount" (Gordon B. Hinckley, "Standing Strong and Immovable," Worldwide Leadership Training Meeting, Jan. 10, 2004, 21).
Young Women is a time set apart for growth and preparation. Leadership in the Church helps each young woman come unto Christ. Through leadership and service, young women:
- Gain testimonies of their identity as daughters of God.
- Have opportunities to qualify for and rely upon the Spirit.
- Prepare to serve in their homes and in the Church.
- Keep the covenants they have made and prepare for temple covenants.
