Young Women General Presidency

Young Women General Presidency
Sustained April 5, 2008

As a presidency, our vision is to assist parents and priesthood leaders in preparing each young woman to be worthy to make and keep sacred covenants and receive the ordinances of the temple.

Our goal will be to help each young woman know her identity as a daughter of our Heavenly Father. We want to help her be virtuous and pure so that she will be worthy to enter the temple. We hope that she will learn to recognize and rely on the Holy Ghost to guide, teach, and comfort her as she makes decisions and progresses through her teenage years. We also want her to understand the covenants she made at baptism and how to renew them each week as she partakes of the sacrament. This knowledge will help her prepare and be worthy to make and keep sacred temple covenants. These vital years are a time of preparation for a young woman’s future roles as a wife, mother, homemaker, and leader.

We truly believe in this generation of young women. They can be a force for good in the world as they come to accept and act on the values found in the Young Women Theme.

“I truly believe that one virtuous young woman, led by the Spirit, can change the world!” (Sister Elaine S. Dalton, October 2008)

Elaine S. Dalton

Elaine Schwartz Dalton
Young Women General President

Elaine Dalton was born and raised in Ogden, Utah. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from Brigham Young University.

Sister Dalton married Stephen E. Dalton in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of five sons and one daughter and the grandparents of twelve grandchildren.

Prior to her calling as the Young Women general president, she served as first and second counselor in the Young Women general presidency. Prior to this service she served on the Young Women general board for five years. Sister Dalton has served in all the women's auxiliaries of the Church on both ward and stake levels.

Sister Dalton enjoys running, hiking with her family, and dancing with her granddaughters. She loves to read, especially the scriptures, and she loves the Lord.

Her favorite scripture and life’s motto is found in Proverbs 3:5–6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not to thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Mary N. Cook

Mary Nielsen Cook
First Counselor, Young Women General Presidency

Born in Midvale, Utah, Mary N. Cook was a special education teacher and administrator prior to her marriage to Richard E. Cook in the Salt Lake Temple on July 16, 1988. At that time, Sister Cook inherited four wonderful children and became the grandmother of eight, as Elder Cook’s first wife had passed away in 1984. They now have seventeen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

In 1995, Sister Cook served with her husband as he presided over a newly-created Mongolian mission where they had served as full-time missionaries. Later she accompanied her husband to Hong Kong where he served in the Asia Area Presidency. Prior to her call as first counselor, Sister Cook served as second counselor in the Young Women general presidency and on the Young Women general board.

Sister Cook has had many unexpected turns in her life, but she believes that as she has “trusted the Lord, he has directed her paths” (Proverbs 3:5–6).

Ann M. Dibb

Ann Monson Dibb
Second Counselor, Young Women General Presidency

Ann Dibb was born and raised in Salt Lake City. She earned her bachelor's degree at Brigham Young University in elementary education. She married Roger Dibb in the Salt Lake Temple, and they are the parents of one daughter and three sons.

Sister Dibb has had the opportunity to remain at home and be a full-time homemaker. She has served in each of the women's auxiliaries. Prior to her call as second counselor in the Young Women general presidency, Sister Dibb served on the Young Women general board.

She enjoys reading, music, and walking. Sister Dibb recognizes the importance of all of the auxiliaries working together in order to benefit and assist the needs of the individual and the family. Sister Dibb loves the gospel of Jesus Christ, knows that it is true, and is grateful for this great blessing in her life and the life of her family.

This calling has confirmed the words of the apostle Paul: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
