(The garden tomb, just before sunset on the day of the crucifixion. Howling wind, thunder, nearly dark. JAMES, THOMAS, MARY MAGDALENE, MARY MOTHER OF JAMES [MARY MOJ], SALOME, JOANNA, JOSEPH OF ARIMATHEA, NICODEMUS, and AARON huddle around the rectangular opening of the tomb. Inside, flickering lights and shadows can be seen before JOHN and PETER emerge with lamps. As the believers start to leave, Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus roll a huge circular stone over the tomb opening. Howling wind and thunder rise. All exit. Thomas stands alone at the stone mourning. Lightning. Fade to black.)

(In the darkness the CHORUS, as angels on the colonnade, begins to sing.)

(As the chorus continues to sing, TWO ANGELS dressed in flowing white robes enter and solemnly walk to the front of the tomb. Ceremoniously, the angels roll the stone away and enter the tomb opening. A light rises within. Fade to black.)
