Summary of Guiding Principles and Goals

The following is a summary of the information contained in Sunday School Auxiliary Training, a document prepared by the Sunday School general presidency for use by local stake and ward Sunday School leaders. Sunday School leaders and teachers could format this text into a summary card or bookmark for convenient reference.

Three Guiding Principles of Gospel Teaching and Learning

The scriptures
  • "Lay hold upon the word of God” (Helaman 3:29).
  • “Preach my gospel by the Spirit” (D&C 50:14).
  • “Seek learning . . . by study and also by faith” (D&C 88:118).

Three Goals for Teacher Orientation and Subsequent Visits

Each teacher will be encouraged and helped to:

  • Draw closer to God and have a greater desire to teach His word.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of how to apply the guiding principles of gospel teaching and learning.
  • Feel the caring support and encouragement of his or her leaders.
