Military Relations
Notification of Serious Illness or Death of a Family Member

If a member of the family at home is seriously injured or dies, the American Red Cross should be notified immediately. They can assist in contacting the service member through military channels so that arrangements can be made for the service member to return home on emergency leave. Normally the military requires verification from the American Red Cross before they will allow the service member to leave the deployed site.
