Public Affairs Worldwide

Public affairs is a worldwide Church program, actively functioning nearly everywhere that the Church is organized and in many places where the Church is not yet fully organized. The full-time work of the Church Public Affairs Department, conducted under the supervision of the First Presidency, is complemented by the work of thousands of called public affairs directors and public affairs council members at the stake, multistake, national, and Church area levels throughout the world.

Full-Time Offices

The Public Affairs Department of the Church maintains full-time offices in the following cities:

Key Cities

While all public affairs work is considered important, the Church designates key city public affairs councils that take the place of multistake councils in major cities where the concentration of top-tier opinion leaders from government, media, academia, and/or business gives these cities broad influence throughout their respective world regions.

Key cities work directly with the Public Affairs Department of the Church to establish strategic relationships with high-level opinion leaders.

Twenty-seven international cities have been designated as key cities:

  • Accra
  • Bangkok
  • Berlin
  • Bogotá
  • Brasilia
  • Brussels
  • Buenos Aires
  • Guatemala City
  • Hong Kong
  • Johannesburg
  • Lima
  • London
  • Madrid
  • Manila
  • Mexico City
  • Monterrey
  • Moscow
  • Paris
  • Santiago
  • São Paulo
  • Seoul
  • Singapore
  • Stockholm
  • Sydney
  • Taipei
  • Tokyo
  • Wellington

Eleven key cities have been designated within the United States and Canada:

  • Atlanta
  • Boston
  • Chicago
  • Denver
  • Houston
  • Los Angeles
  • New York City
  • Orlando
  • Philadelphia
  • Seattle
  • Toronto

Work at Church headquarters in Salt Lake City, as well as the work of the key cities, now consumes nearly all of the day-to-day resources of the Public Affairs Department personnel. Accordingly, multistake and stake public affairs councils are asked to look to local priesthood leaders for guidance and to contact the Church Public Affairs Department only on priesthood leaders’ recommendation.

Public Affairs Missionaries

At any given time full-time public affairs missionary couples can be found serving in various parts of the world. These couples support full-time public affairs offices, provide day-to-day assistance to key city public affairs councils, conduct training for stake and multistake councils, and serve in a variety of other related capacities. Local couples should be called to serve whenever possible.
