Never go into an interview without knowing what will happen. You are entitled to know the circumstances that prompted the invitation and the format and content of the interview. You might want to determine the answers to the following questions:
- What gave the interviewer the idea for the interview? (For example, did the interviewer decide to do a story about missionaries because someone complained to the station or because he met some missionaries on the street and enjoyed talking to them?)
- What topics is the interview going to cover? (Don't ask for a list of specific questions. This is unprofessional.) Instead ask, “What areas do you want to cover in the interview, so that we can provide the most appropriate spokesperson?”
- Will the interview be live or recorded?
- How long will the final version of the interview run? (You need to know this so you can plan your answers.)
- Who will be asking the questions?
- Will anyone else other than you and the interviewer be involved, such as a person with an opposing viewpoint, listeners who call in, or others? If so, who?
- What is the location, date, and time of the broadcast?
