Activity Suggestions

Youth GroupUnlike traditional Church broadcasts, the DVD A Brand New Year is not a stand-alone event. The DVD segments are intended to be integrated into local youth activities already being planned on or around New Year’s Eve. If leaders choose to use A Brand New Year in their youth activity, they may want to consider the following:

Involving all youth (ages 12-18)
Leaders may wish to carefully consider involving less-active youth, encouraging youth to invite friends of other faiths, and providing alternative activities for Beehives and deacons if a dance is held.

Youth DancingPlanning a variety of activities before and after viewing segments of the DVD
Activities could include:

  • Service projects.
  • Social activities (dinners, dances, and so on).
  • Cultural programs (talent shows, musical presentations, short plays, and so on).
  • Sports or recreational activities.
  • Family history activities (research, temple name extraction, and so on).
  • A celebration of good works in 2008 (media slideshows, and so on).
  • Firesides, workshops, testimony meetings, and so on.

Below are two sample schedules that integrate the DVD segments into a local New Year’s Eve youth activity. A broad range of activities are possible. These samples are not intended to dictate what local leaders and youth plan for their event. Classes, quorums, or families might also use the DVD segments within a lesson or smaller activity.
