Beginning fall 2009, the Aaronic Priesthood Resource Guide will no longer be printed in the conference issue of the Church magazines. This new 12-page guide will be mailed to you through the fall 2009 curriculum order process for use in 2010 with Aaronic Priesthood - Manual 2.
The Aaronic Priesthood Resource Guide has been revised to strengthen the testimony of each young man, invite discussion, and assist Young Men leaders in getting the doctrines into the hearts of young men.
Young men have questions. The Lord has promised answers. We promise that if you prepare spiritually as you use this guide, considering each young man, you will be guided to teach what is needful. You will be able to guide them in the process of finding answers as they pray, study the scriptures, study the words of the living prophets, discuss doctrines, and receive the guidance of the Holy Ghost and practice living what they have learned.
FEATURES OF THE REVISED GUIDE
The revised Aaronic Priesthood Resource Guide has been designed to help with this process:
- Questions - Answer relevant questions young men have about the doctrines of the gospel.
- Each resource begins with two or three questions; these questions focus the doctrine taught on issues relevant to the lives of young men. Leaders are encouraged to use these questions or to craft their own questions based on the needs and questions of their young men.
Use questions to engage young men in the learning process and invite discussion in the class.
- Additional Resources - Help young men become acquainted with the words of the living prophets and auxiliary leaders.
- The most recent teachings of our living prophets and auxiliary leaders will be listed to assist leaders in keeping the teaching current. Use these talks as a guide in your preparation and the quotes as a substitute for older quotes in the manuals. Notes will also be included on stories and examples that may be used to substitute for dated lesson content.
These resources will be linked through the online resource guides for easy access.
- Experiences - Involve youth in learning through discussion, searching, and using Young Men tools (Duty to God, For the Strength of Youth, and Mutual) to apply and practice the doctrines.
- The doctrine taught and understood by the young men needs to be reinforced through application and experiences. Using the tools of the Young Men program and activities, provide encouragement and opportunities for young men to practice the gospel principles taught on Sunday. Help them understand how the experience on Sunday transfers to all areas of their lives.
- Teaching Tips
- Teaching tips have been provided throughout the resource guide to assist leaders as they prepare.
