Sunday School General PresidencyOn April 4, 2009, The First Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced the reorganization of the Sunday School general presidency. Brother Russell T. Osguthorpe was sustained as the Sunday School general president, David M. McConkie as first counselor, and Matthew O. Richardson as second counselor.

Sunday School General President

Russell T. Osguthorpe was serving as a member of the Fifth Quorum of the Seventy when he received the call to serve as the Sunday School general president. He's also served as a stake president, stake and ward Young Men president, counselor in a bishopric, branch president at the Provo Utah Missionary Training Center and president of the South Dakota Rapid City Mission. He has also been a member of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Brother Osguthorpe holds multiple degrees from Brigham Young University including a PhD in instructional psychology. He currently serves as director of the Center for Teaching and Learning and as a professor in the Department of Instructional Psychology and Technology at Brigham Young University. Brother Osguthorpe and his wife Lolly are the parents of 5 children, and have 17 grandchildren.

   
David  M. McConkie

David M. McConkie
First Counselor, Sunday School Presidency

David M. McConkie was serving as a Stake President when he was called as the first counselor of the Sunday School general presidency. Previous church service includes serving as a counselor in a stake presidency, on a high council, and as a bishop.

Brother McConkie is an attorney practicing law at a Salt Lake City-based law firm. He received his law degree from the University of Utah. Brother McConkie's wife's name is JoAnne. They are parents of seven children.

   
Matthew  O. Richardson

Matthew O. Richardson
Second Counselor, Sunday School Presidency

Matthew O. Richardson is the second counselor of the Sunday School general presidency. He also served as a Sunday School teacher, in a Young Men presidency including time as a Young Men president, as a bishop and as a member of a Young Men/Young Women curriculum writing committee.

Brother Richardson has completed both undergraduate and graduate work at Brigham Young University with degrees in communication and educational leadership. He worked as a seminary instructor and is an instructor and professor at BYU where he has also served as the Associate Dean of Religious Education. He and his wife Lisa are the parents of four children.
