Temples and Family History

“Millions of our ancestors have lived upon the earth without receiving the benefit of temple ordinances. . . . All of the ordinances which take place in the House of the Lord become expressions of our belief in that fundamental and basic doctrine of the immortality of the human soul” (“Letter from the First Presidency,Ensign, Mar. 2004, 45).

Consider meaningful topics such as these:

  • Hands-on classes to learn how to use the new FamilySearch.
  • Preparing for the temple.
  • Getting started with family history.
  • Collecting family history information.
  • Organizing family history information.
  • Searching for records of an ancestor.
  • Submitting names for temple ordinances.
  • Using Internet family history resources.
  • Interviewing family members.
  • Writing personal and family histories.
  • Learning how to convert handwritten documents to computer records (indexing).

Young single adults are often a good resource for teaching computer and research skills.
