How to apply for a loan
The PEF loan application process is not difficult, but it does require some self-discipline and effort—qualities that will help prepare you for additional educational opportunities.

The following are key steps in this process:

  1. Enroll in your local institute of religion.
  2. Make sure you are working, if possible, so you can pay for your living costs and help pay for your education costs.
  3. Talk with your institute director about applying for a PEF loan. He will help you:
  • Take a short career-training course to help you choose a good job, select an appropriate school, and organize your finances.
  • Explore other ways to pay education costs, including personal and family resources, scholarships, and grants. When these resources are insufficient, you may apply for a loan.
  • Use this Web site to apply for a loan online, or complete a paper application.
  1. Meet with your bishop and stake president to verify your need and worthiness.
  2. Commit to all aspects of the program: make progress reports, repay the loan, and stay active and worthy.
