Visit the home of the woman who participated in the establishment of the largest and oldest worldwide women's organization, the Relief Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Newlyweds Hiram and Sarah Kimball moved into this already-existing frame home in 1840. Two years later, Sarah organized a group of women and supplied them with materials to make shirts for the men who were constructing the Nauvoo Temple. These women formed the core of what became the Female Relief Society of Nauvoo, organized by Joseph Smith on 17 March 1842. The Relief Society, as it is now known, has 4.5 million members worldwide.
