Every year stake presidencies in the United States are invited to the Priesthood Leadership Conference on Scouting at the Philmont Training Center in New Mexico. The purpose of this conference is to help stake leaders better understand how Scouting can support the Aaronic Priesthood.
The conference is held under the direction of the Young Men general presidency and the general Scouting committee of the Church. The faculty, selected from the Young Men general presidency and board and Primary general presidency and board, provides training in the programs and administration of Scouting as a supporting activity of the Aaronic Priesthood and Primary.
Leaders may register for one of two weeklong conference sessions. Because of high demand and limited space, priority is given to stake presidency members and their families. In addition, members of the stake presidency who register may invite a high councilor or stake Young Men president to attend with them, and applications for these leaders will be accepted if space is available. All other applications will be placed on a waiting list.
Each priesthood leader is encouraged to bring his wife and family to Philmont. While leaders are attending training classes, family members can participate in a variety of fun activities, including hiking, horseback riding, handicraft classes, special tours, or just relaxing.
