As parents faithfully and consistently teach their children about tithing, they will help their children receive a testimony of a divine law that will bless them throughout their lives.
My mother told me she was proud of me. She told me I would be blessed for paying tithing and that it was the best investment I could ever make.
The Lord was not pleased with the way they were paying their tithes and offerings, so he sent the prophet Malachi to teach them.
When we pay tithing, we give some of the money we have earned to the Church to help pay for things that help people learn about Heavenly Father and Jesus and the gospel, such as temples, Church buildings, lesson manuals, and other materials.
Heavenly Father wants us to show our gratitude, faith, and obedience by paying tithing and giving other offerings to the Church.
Lesson 45: “Lorenzo Snow Receives a Revelation on Tithing,” Primary 5: Doctrine and Covenants and Church History
How was President Snow blessed because he followed the promptings of the Holy Ghost? How are we blessed when we follow the promptings of the Holy Ghost?
When we earn money, we pay 10 percent to the Lord. This is called tithing.
Each young man will learn that the payment of tithing brings great blessings, tests our faithfulness, and prepares us to live the higher law of consecration.
Each young man will understand how he can contribute to the growth of the kingdom of God and receive spiritual and temporal blessings by paying tithes and offerings.
Each young man will realize that paying tithing shows his love for the Lord and that by so doing he will be blessed and will be helping to build the kingdom of God.
We have been given commandments to help us prepare in every way to live in the presence of our Heavenly Father. He has given us a way to thank Him for our blessings. Willingly paying tithes and offerings is one way we thank Him.
Lesson 17: “The Law of Tithing and the Law of the Fast,” Doctrine and Covenants and Church History Gospel Doctrine Teacher’s Manual
Help class members strengthen their desire to pay a full tithe and live the law of the fast.
A lack of compliance with this eternal law is not to be taken lightly and can not only seriously impair our spiritual growth and development, but it can also limit the physical and temporal blessings that we could otherwise enjoy.
