General Young Men Presidency


The Aaronic Priesthood is the basic organization for the young men of the Church ages 12 through 18. The Young Men organization is an auxiliary or help to the priesthood. The Young Men organization promotes the growth and development of each young man through quorum instruction, quorum activities, and combined Young Men–Young Women activities. The Duty to God program is also an integral part of this effort.


Stephen W. Owen

Young Men General President

Stephen W. Owen was sustained as the Young Men general president on April 4, 2015. His previous Church service includes serving as a full-time missionary in the Texas San Antonio Mission, president of the California Arcadia Mission, stake president, counselor in a stake presidency, bishop, high councilor, Scoutmaster, ward Young Men president, and elders quorum president.

He received a bachelor of science degree in finance at the University of Utah and is a business owner in Provo, Utah. He is married to Jane Stringham, and they are the parents of five children.

Douglas D. Holmes

First Counselor, Young Men General Presidency

Douglas D. Holmes was sustained as the first counselor in the Young Men general presidency on April 4, 2015. His Church service includes; full time missionary in the Glasgow Scotland Mission, president of the Michigan Detroit Mission, Stake presidency councilor, bishop, ward Young Men president, stake Young Men presidency, ward mission leader, and temple ordinance worker.

He received a bachelor of arts degree in family science and an MBA, both from Brigham Young University.  He worked in several positions for MediaOne, a global telecommunications company, including CFO and executive vice president.  He is now self-employed as an investor and developer. He is married to Erin Sue Toone, and they are the parents of six children.

M. Joseph Brough
M. Joseph Brough

Second Counselor, Young Men General Presidency

M. Joseph Brough was sustained as the second counselor in the Young Men general presidency on April 4, 2015. Previously, he has served as president of the Guatemala Guatemala City Central Mission, ward Young Men president, bishop, bishop’s counselor, and high councilor.

He received a bachelor of arts in finance and a master of business administration from the University of Utah. He is a business owner in Brigham City, Utah. He is married to Emily Jane Thompson Brough, and they are the parents of four children.

Steven J. Lund
Steven J. Lund

Steven J. Lund was serving as ward Young Men’s president when called to serve on the Young Men’s General Board in 2015.  He has also served as an Area Seventy in the Utah South Area, president of the Georgia Atlanta Mission, stake president’s councilor, bishop, ward mission leader, high councilor, elders quorum president, and as a missionary in the Netherlands Amsterdam Mission.

He received a bachelor of arts degree in communications and a law degree, both from Brigham Young University.  He is senior executive of a Utah based cosmetics company, and is a member of the State Board of Regents. He is married to Kalleen Kirk, and they have 4 children and 7 grandchildren.
 

Thomas E. Mullen
Thomas E. Mullen

Thomas E. Mullen grew up in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  His church service includes president of the New York Utica Mission, stake president, ward young men president, bishop, branch president (Provo MTC) and Elders quorum president.  As a young man, he served a fulltime mission in the Canada Toronto Mission.

He currently works on the senior management team of a multinational firm and is president of a private charitable trust.  He received a Bachelor of Science degree in both business management and accounting from Brigham Young University and an MBA from the University of Utah.  He is an adjunct faculty member in Religious Education at Brigham Young University where he and his wife, Susie, teach Missionary Preparation.  He is married to Susan Owen.  They have one daughter and three sons.
 

Michael T. Nelson
Michael T. Nelson

Michael T. Nelson was serving as the stake young men’s president when called to serve on the Young Men’s General Board in 2018.  He has full confidence in the divinely given capacity of the young men of the church.  His church service includes missionary in the Chile Santiago Mission, president of the California San Bernardino Mission, stake president, counselor in a stake presidency, stake executive secretary, bishop, and ward young men’s president.

He studied organizational communications at Brigham Young University and at the University of Utah.  His career has been the operational manager of a Utah based conglomerate and is currently the CFO of the same company.  Brother Nelson is married to Barbara Fluckiger, and they are the parents of nine children and a growing number of grand-children. 
 

Stephen H. Hess
Stephen H. Hess

Stephen H. Hess was raised in Farmington, Utah.  He loves the young men of the church and knows they were not sent here to fail.  His church service includes president of the Michigan Lansing Mission, stake patriarch, counselor in the stake presidency, bishop, high councilor, elders quorum president, stake and ward young men’s president.

He received his bachelor of science in history and psychology, with a secondary teaching certificate, a masters degree in Instructional Systems and Learning Resources and a PhD in Educational Administration from the University of Utah.  He is the Vice President for Information Technology and CIO for the University of Utah and the State System of Higher Education.  He is married to Vicki Killpack, and they are the parents of nine children.
 

Chad R. Wilkinson
Chad R. Wilkinson

Chad R. Wilkinson was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah and served a mission in the Dominican Republic. He and his wife Allison met on a blind date on Friday the 13th.  They are the parents of three daughters and one son.

He is employed with Seminaries and Institutes of Religion and has had assignments as assistant administrator, area director, institute teacher, and seminary teacher and is currently serving as the Institute Director of Orem Institute of Religion (UVU).

He has a Bachelors Degree from the University of Utah and a Masters Degree from Brigham Young University.

Brother Wilkinson serves on the Young Men’s General Board and has served as a mission president in Costa Rica, stake president and as a bishop.
