Messages from Leaders

Messages from general Church leaders to help elders quorum presidencies and high priests group leaders and their assistants in their sacred callings.

  • The Power of the Priesthood

“We have done very well at distributing the authority of the priesthood. We have priesthood authority planted nearly everywhere. We have quorums of elders and high priests worldwide. But distributing the authority of the priesthood has raced, I think, ahead of distributing the power of the priesthood. The priesthood does not have the strength that it should have and will not have until the power of the priesthood is firmly fixed in the families as it should be” (Boyd K. Packer, Liahona and Ensign, May 2010, 7). Read, watch, or listen to President Packer's entire conference address on priesthood power.

  • The Basic Unit Program—Adapting to Local Needs

Elder L. Tom Perry gave extremely useful counsel in the worldwide leadership training meeting of January 2003: “The secret in building a branch or a district, a ward or a stake is to know your members, their abilities, and their needs, and build your program based on the leadership available and the needs of your members. . . . In all you do, be aware that bigger is not necessarily better. Grow only as fast as the size and maturity of your unit permit. Preserve the strength of your members” (Worldwide Leadership Training, Jan. 11, 2003, 9). The next worldwide leadership training meeting in February 2011 will specifically address this concept.

  • Rise to Your Call

“You are called to represent the Savior. Your voice to testify becomes the same as His voice, your hands to lift the same as His hands. His work is to bless His Father's spirit children with the opportunity to choose eternal life. So, your calling is to bless lives. That will be true even in the most ordinary tasks you are assigned and in moments when you might be doing something not apparently connected to your call. Just the way you smile or the way you offer to help someone can build their faith” (“Rise to Your Call,” Henry B. Eyring, Liahona and Ensign, Nov. 2002, 76). Read President Eyring's entire conference address on rising to your call.
