Leaders and Clerks
Why do I have to set up a passcode or PIN to use the app?
If you are serving in a stake presidency, district presidency, bishopric, or branch presidency, or if you are an executive secretary or clerk, you can view reports and membership data for your units. To view this additional leader data, you are required to set up a passcode on iOS devices or a PIN on Android devices to help prevent unauthorized access. After a 60-minute timeout period for each session, you will be prompted to reenter your passcode or PIN. All users of LDS Tools can set up a passcode or PIN by going to Settings in LDS Tools.
I am a ward clerk; do I have access to the same reports and data in LDS Tools that I can access through Clerk Resources?
As selected reports and data are made available in LDS Tools, you will have the same access to them as you do in Clerk Resources on LDS.org. Not all data and reports available through Clerk Resources are available in LDS Tools.
I am a ward clerk and updated information for a member in my ward, but LDS Tools isn’t reflecting the change; how can I update LDS Tools?
When you sync your data in LDS Tools, the information is downloaded from the Church’s membership database. If the change is not appearing in LDS Tools after you have updated the record in MLS, it hasn’t propagated through all the Church databases yet.
Why don’t quorum and auxiliary presidencies have access to data and reports that are available to them in Member and Leader Services (MLS)?
LDS Tools currently provides additional membership data and reports to bishoprics, branch presidencies, and stake and district presidencies, as well as clerks and executive secretaries. Quorum and auxiliary presidencies will likely be given access through LDS Tools to certain membership data and reports that pertain to their callings.
All Users: General Issues
How can I see the directory for other wards or branches in my stake or district?
Once you have tapped on a menu item such as the directory, to change units, just tap on the currently selected unit’s name at the top of the screen, and then select the desired unit from the drop-down menu.
How can I keep notes about members in LDS Tools?
In order to ensure the privacy of members and comply with data privacy laws, LDS Tools does not allow users to record notes about members.
I do not remember my LDS Account password; how can I reset it?
To reset your LDS Account password, please visit: https://ldsaccount.lds.org.
When I try to sign in to LDS Tools, I get an “Error Downloading” message, how can I sign in?
This is because your LDS Account is not associated with your Church Membership Record Number (MRN). Visit the LDS Account registration page to add your MRN to your LDS Account and then try signing in to LDS Tools again.
Is it possible to view information for members outside of my stake or district?
No, it is not possible. You are authorized to view information only for members who are in your stake or district or in stakes or districts in which you have a calling.
When I choose to add a member to my mobile device contacts, what information is included?
When tapping “Add to Contacts” for an individual member in the directory, you are given the option to create a new contact or to update an existing contact. After making a selection, the following fields are added for the contact:
- Phone (personal and household)
- Email (personal and household)
If you choose to update an existing contact, the fields will be added only if they aren’t already listed for the contact or if they are listed but do not match exactly. For example, if there is already a phone number listed for the contact but it does not match a number being imported, then the field is duplicated to ensure existing data is not deleted or overwritten.
Why am I unable to download the LDS Tools data to multiple mobile devices and see the same data such as my custom lists?
Each mobile device you have LDS Tools installed on downloads your stake or district information independent of one another. Custom lists are stored only locally on your device and are not synced with Church servers. If you would like to update your stake or district information in LDS Tools for your device, open the application, and perform a sync.
What system-access permissions does LDS Tools require from my mobile device?
LDS Tools requires:
- Permission to determine if an Internet connection is available and to access the connection to sync data.
- Permission to write the LDS Tools database and cached images to external storage on your mobile device.
- Permission to add an individual to personal contacts on the mobile device.
- Permission to add an event from the stake calendar to the personal calendar on the mobile device.
- Permission for authorized users (household members for their own household or ward administrators) to take pictures of members and upload them directly in LDS Tools, which will also add the photos to the LDS.org membership directory.
- Permission to use Near Field Communication (NFC), if it is available on the mobile device, which allows users to tap devices to show individual members or events.
- Permission to tap on phone numbers and call them directly from LDS Tools.
- Permission for LDS Tools to use wireless Internet, mobile cell data, or the Global Positioning System (GPS) to determine the device's location when using the Maps feature in LDS Tools.
All Users: Data Issues
When I perform a sync to download my data on my iPhone, I get an error message. Why can’t I download my data?
If cookies are currently blocked in your Safari web browser settings, you will not be able to sync your data in LDS Tools. To update this setting, tap on the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad, and then tap on Safari and then on Block Cookies. Then, under Privacy & Security, change the setting to either From third parties and advertisers or Never. After updating this setting, force LDS Tools to close, and then reenter LDS Tools before performing a sync of your LDS Tools data.
Why are members of my ward or branch not listed in the directory?
On the membership directory on LDS.org (https://www.lds.org/directory), members can choose to allow some or all of their contact information to display. In certain countries, due to data privacy laws, all members are opted out by default (in other words, their information is not shown), and members have to opt in to make their information available. If members choose to opt out, their information will be available only to certain priesthood leaders on the membership directory on LDS.org and in LDS Tools.
Why is there no home or visiting teaching data?
Currently, home and visiting teaching data is stored only in each unit’s Member and Leader Services (MLS) software. Home and visiting teaching data may be available online through LDS.org in the future, which will allow us to make the data available in LDS Tools.
I recently moved and have resynced LDS Tools, but I am still seeing the calendar information from my old stake or district. How can I update it to my new stake or district?
To reset which calendar you have access to, you will need to first sign in to the Calendar page on LDS.org (http://www.lds.org/church-calendar). Once you have successfully signed in, perform a sync of your LDS Tools data. The calendar in LDS Tools should now display events for your new stake or district.
I found incorrect or incomplete data in LDS Tools; how can I fix it?
Currently, you can only update photos in LDS Tools. To update any other data in LDS Tools, you will need to work with your ward or branch clerk. If you need to add or update contact information including phone numbers or email addresses for yourself or members of your household, you can also make those changes in the membership directory on LDS.org (https://www.lds.org/directory).
