Welcome Message from the MTC President

Dear Prospective Missionaries and Parents,

We are pleased to welcome you to the Guatemala Missionary Training Center. We know that your experience at the MTC will build upon your testimony and knowledge of our Savior Jesus Christ and the restored gospel. When you leave the MTC you will have confidence in your ability to teach gospel doctrine and principles. You will also know how obedience to the Lord’s laws and the mission rules invites the Holy Spirit, which in turn testifies of the truthfulness of your teaching.

You will find our services and amenities here at the MTC to be of the highest quality. Our teachers are men and women with strong testimonies and great teaching ability. They all served as full-time missionaries and bring much knowledge and experience into their classes. Our dining service is top quality; the chef prepares a variety of dishes, most of which will be familiar to nonnatives, while the others will provide a healthy and tasty introduction to Central American cuisine. Our living facilities are clean and modern, and the gym and sports area are spacious and invigorating. A highlight of each week is our trip to the Guatemala City Guatemala Temple, which is just a five-minute walk up the street.

Your pre-mission preparation will enhance your learning experience in the MTC. We suggest you read or reread the Book of Mormon and Preach My Gospel (particularly chapters 1 and 3) as well as the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John in the Bible. We invite you to spend some time doing Internet research about your mission country, which will increase your love and appreciation for the culture and the people you will be serving.

As much as we want your MTC experience to be the best, we know that the real joy of missionary work comes as you enter the field to teach your investigators repentance and invite them to come unto Christ and be baptized. In turn, they will come to know the joy of service in the Lord’s kingdom. As you watch these wonderful converts grow and prepare to receive the ordinances of the temple, you will feel the same kind of joy that Ammon felt as he proclaimed, “But behold, my joy is full, yea, my heart is brim with joy, and I will rejoice in my God” (Alma 26:11).

Sincerely,
President and Sister Morris
