Frequently Asked Questions for U.S. and Canadian Residents

Czech Republic Questions:

Do missionaries need to send in their actual passport?

Yes. Missionaries need to send in their actual passport because it is needed in order to apply for the missionary’s visa. Please be sure to sign your passport before sending it in.

Do missionaries really need to make a photocopy of everything?

Yes. Missionaries should make one photocopy of every document listed in the checklist found on their instruction sheet.

Can I make corrections to my visa forms if the information already filled in is not correct?

You may use white-out tape (not liquid) to make needed changes. Do not scribble or cross things out.

How do missionaries complete the parts of the visa application that there are no instructions for?

Missionaries MUST NOT complete anything on their visa application that they are not specifically instructed to complete.

What if missionaries cannot fit all of the required information on the visa application?

Missionaries can use a blank sheet of white paper to write any additional information that will not fit on the visa application.

My signature does not match the name printed on my passport. Is that a problem?

No. If you did not sign your full name on the passport, then any visa document requiring your signature must be signed the same way you signed your passport.

How long does it take to obtain a visa for the Czech Republic?

Once visa documents have been received by the Czech Republic Consulate, it can take up to 3 months to receive a visa. To avoid visa delays, the requested visa documents should be returned to Church Travel no later than the requested date on their visa instruction sheet.

Slovakia Questions:

If missionaries have all their documents ready except the FBI clearance, can they mail everything else to Missionary Travel now?

Yes. It is preferred that missionaries mail everything else to Missionary Travel as soon as it is completed. The FBI clearance should not be applied for until 5 weeks before entering the missionary training center (junior missionaries) or 14 weeks prior to missionaries' travel date from the missionary training center to their mission (senior couples and senior sisters). Missionaries should contact the agent listed on their instruction sheet if someone at home will not be able to mail the completed FBI Clearance to Missionary Travel.

Do missionaries need to send their actual passport?

No. Missionaries assigned to Slovakia will keep their passport and bring it with them to the missionary training center. Missionaries assigned to the Czech Republic are required to mail in their passports.
