Frequently Asked Questions for U.S. and Canadian Residents

My signature does not match the name printed on my passport. Is that a problem?

It will not be a problem.

Can missionaries take an international trip with their passport before they go on their mission?

Yes. The actual passport doesn’t need to be turned in to Missionary Travel (only a photocopy of the identification page), so missionaries can take an international trip with their passport before they leave on their mission.

Can I make corrections to my visa forms if the information already filled in is not correct?

You may use white-out tape (not liquid) to make needed changes. Do not scribble or cross things out.

Can missionaries send in some of their paperwork now and the rest later?

Yes. Missionaries can send their paperwork in as it’s completed.

What should missionaries do if the notary public won’t notarize the photocopy of their passport ID page?

Missionaries should explain to the notary he or she isn't notarizing the missionary's signature, but rather notarizing that it is a true and correct copy of the actual passport. The notary can write on the copy, “I notarize this is a true and correct copy of the passport ID page” and then notarize. If one particular notary won’t do it, missionaries should find another notary who will.

What is an Apostille?

An Apostille is an international legalization of the signature of the registrar or director of vital statistics and notary public in order for the documents to be used in a foreign country.

Can missionaries send in some of their paperwork now and the rest in later?

Yes. Missionaries can send in the paperwork as it’s completed.

When will missionaries get their visa?

Missionaries will obtain their visa in country.
