Sunday Relief Society Meetings

(9.4.1, Sunday Meetings)

Lorenzo Snow

Beginning in 2014, Relief Society sisters and Melchizedek Priesthood brethren will use the Teachings of Presidents of the Church: Joseph Fielding Smith Smith book for lessons on the second and third Sundays of each month.

“As I have visited in quorums and Relief Societies, I have generally been pleased and impressed at how these Teachings of Presidents of the Church are being presented and received. However, I have sometimes observed teachers who gave the designated chapter no more than a casual mention and then presented a lesson and invited discussion on other materials of the teacher's choice. That is not acceptable. A gospel teacher is not called to choose the subject of the lesson but to teach and discuss what has been specified. Gospel teachers should also be scrupulous to avoid hobby topics, personal speculations, and controversial subjects. The Lord's revelations and the directions of His servants are clear on this point.”

Dallin H. Oaks, "Gospel Teaching," Ensign, Nov. 1999, 78

In Sunday Relief Society meetings, we learn how to increase faith, strengthen families, and provide relief:

  • We study the words of prophets and apostles.
  • When inspired teaching takes place, all are edified and rejoice together (see Doctrine and Covenants 43:8).
