Music of Other Cultures

Audience: Families (children, youth, and adults)

Objective: Families will experience music from other cultures, especially music from the places and times their ancestors lived in.

Organize musical events in your center. Invite families, youth groups, or Primary children to enjoy music from other cultures and time periods. This activity will be more effective if you first find out what cultures and time periods their ancestors lived in. This will help them think about their heritage as they listen or sing along.

Invite musicians to the center to play live, or have a music player and a selection of recorded music typical of the culture you want to feature.

Encourage the audience to pay attention to their feelings as they listen. They can record these feelings while or after listening to the music. Help them discover new things about their ancestors.
