“We have some new plans for our program this year, and we always try to have a few surprises for the concert performances.” —Mack Wilberg, music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir
Each year the Christmas concert presented by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square is seen by more than 85,000 people live and by millions more via television broadcast. It is a full-scale production featuring world-class musicians, soloists, dancers, and narrators that audiences return for year after year.
Tickets have already been distributed through a random selection process.
This year’s concert will be held in the Conference Center at 8:00 p.m. on December 15, 16, and 17, and at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 18.
Each year the choir invites one or more guest artists to perform with them—in 2009 it was Natalie Cole; four years earlier it was Angela Lansbury and Frederica von Stade. This year, actress Jane Seymour and opera star Nathan Gunn will join the choir and orchestra. Mack Wilberg and Ryan Murphy will conduct the concerts.
“Every year we approach our Christmas concerts with excitement as we begin working with another set of distinguished guest artists,” said Mack Wilberg, music director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. “We have some new plans for our program this year, and we always try to have a few surprises for the concert performances. In the meantime, we will be hard at work in rehearsals with the choir, orchestra, bells, and our volunteer dancers.”
This event is not available by broadcast, but each year, PBS rebroadcasts the previous year's concert around the world. The 2011 concert will be available through PBS in 2012. Check your local listings for times and dates.
