“We hope each of you will prayerfully consider what you would like to ask us, and we promise to do our best to be prepared with meaningful answers.” —Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles
Youth in Africa will have the opportunity to interact with Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and his wife, Sister Ruth L. Renlund, during a regional Face to Face event in Accra, Ghana, on August 5, 2017—the first Church broadcast originating from the Africa West Area.
All youth and their friends, leaders, and parents in Africa (and all others who wish to participate) are invited to watch the live, interactive question-and-answer broadcast on Saturday, August 5, on face2face.lds.org, LDS Youth on Facebook and YouTube, or their area communication page. There will be two originating broadcasts, one in English, Portuguese, and Malagasy at 10:00 a.m. GMT (10:00 a.m. in Ghana, 12:00 p.m. in Johannesburg), and the second in French at 1:00 p.m. GMT (1:00 p.m. in Ghana, 3:00 p.m. in Johannesburg).
“Ruth and I were thrilled to get the assignment to return to Africa!” said Elder Renlund. “While we lived in Africa we were frequently in awe of the immense faith we found in the members there and in the island nations of the Indian Ocean. There is no question the light of the gospel shines brightly in their countenances. We look forward to being in their presence and basking in their love for the Lord again.”
Sister Ruth Renlund said, “Elder Renlund and I are so excited to be with our members in the Africa West and Africa Southeast Areas!”
“I often say people like me better if they have met Ruth first,” Elder Renlund added. “I know these wonderful youth will be blessed by her faith and confidence in the Lord and her practical approach to daily gospel living. It will be a treat for me to have her by my side during this event.”
Elder and Sister Renlund invite youth in Africa to:
- Ponder what questions they might have for Elder and Sister Renlund.
- Read James 1:2–8 and Alma 37:35–37.
- Submit questions on the event page any time before or during the event.
- Pray about a nonmember friend who might be ready to hear from one of the Lord’s Apostles.
- Invite a friend to also participate in the event.
- Watch and participate at facetoface.lds.org on August 5.
- Share what they learned with others.
- Act on what they learned at the Face to Face.
“We look forward to receiving questions from these faithful youth,” said Elder Renlund. “We hope each of you will prayerfully consider what you would like to ask us, and we promise to do our best to be prepared with meaningful answers. Our desire is to help you learn lifelong strategies to faithfully overcome your daily struggles. We hope it is an inspiring experience for all.”
Leaders are invited to make this Face to Face event a special Mutual activity. Youth may also choose to get together with family and friends and watch the broadcast together.
The Church’s Face to Face events are live social media broadcasts to targeted audiences. Face to Face guests typically include members of the First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, other General Officers of the Church, and members of good standing.
This is the second regional Face to Face event sponsored by the Church. Elder D. Todd Christofferson and his wife, Sister Kathy Christofferson, were featured during a regional event December 10, 2016, in Guatemala.
President Henry B. Eyring of the First Presidency and Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve were featured in a worldwide Face to Face event March 4. Worldwide Face to Face events are streamed live on LDS.org and archived for future use on lds.org/youth/activities.face-to-face-events.
