A cast and crew of more than 1,100 volunteers are bringing early Church history in the U.S. and England to life in the Nauvoo Pageant and the British Pageant, July 8 through August 2 in Nauvoo, Illinois.

This year marks the tenth annual production of the Nauvoo Pageant, which tells the story of early Latter-day Saints who, in 1839, fled to Nauvoo to escape religious persecution. The British Pageant, Truth Will Prevail, tells the history of early Mormonism in the British Isles.

Both pageants include scripts based on actual journals and historic records from the 1800s, as well as traditional and original music. Seeing both the Nauvoo and British pageants will allow audiences to view the close and continuing relationship between Mormons in the British Isles and the United States. The faith, devotion, and sacrifice of the 19th-century British Church members helped make possible the flourishing religious community that was established in Nauvoo.

“It is the story of those who seek for truth and, having found it, are loyal and true to it,” said Stephen Kerr, former British Pageant president. “It is our story, and in telling it in the words of our [ancestors] we believe we are also sharing our own personal testimonies ... of the gospel of Jesus Christ.”

John Ricks, Nauvoo Pageant president, adds that “the pageant provides opportunities to teach and learn the gospel through the conversion stories of early Church members.”

The Nauvoo Pageant will be presented on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday evenings, with the British Pageant on Wednesdays and Fridays. Country Fair preshow activities begin each night at 7:00, with pageant performances starting at 8:30 p.m. Events are free of charge with no reservations required and unlimited seating.
