Just a few yards from the site of the commemoration concert, in 1837, Elder Heber C Kimball (of the Quorum of twelve Apostles) leapt ashore in Liverpool (20th July 1837), accompanied by Orson Hyde, Willard Richards, Joseph Fielding, John Goodson, John Snyder and Isaac Russell. It was the first time that missionaries of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints had set foot on land outside of North America.
In the following years, thousands were to join the Church and emigrate to Zion through the port of Liverpool.
