Elder Keith K. Hilbig

First Quorum of the Seventy 2006-2012

Elder Keith K. Hilbig was sustained a member of the First Quorum of the Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 1, 2006. He had previously served for five years in the Second Quorum. Prior to that time, he was an Area Seventy, serving in the Third and Fifth Quorums of the Seventy (which encompassed the Europe West and North America West Areas). As a General Authority, he has served as a member of presidencies in the Europe East Area, North America Northwest Area, and Pacific Area. He has also served as the Executive Director of the Audiovisual Department and Assistant Executive Director of the Curriculum Department, the Scriptures Committee, and the Restoration and Cancellation Committee.

Elder Hilbig was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, having been born there on March 13, 1942.

He earned a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in European history from Princeton University and a Juris Doctor degree from Duke University. In 1970 he commenced his practice as a trial attorney in Los Angeles, California, and eventually formed his own law firm, specializing in commercial litigation in state and federal courts. In April 1998, the Church asked him to withdraw from his law firm in order to become International Legal Counsel for the Church, stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He had responsibility for some 40 nations in Eastern and Western Europe and the Middle East.

Elder Hilbig has served as a full-time missionary in central Germany and as a seminary teacher, Young Men president, temple ordinance worker, elders quorum president, bishop, and high councilor. He was president of the Palos Verdes California Stake for 10 years and thereafter (from July 1989 to July 1992), he presided over the Switzerland Zürich Mission.

Elder Hilbig married Susan Rae Logie of Trumbull, Connecticut, in the Salt Lake Temple on June 1, 1967. They are the parents of six children. have 30 grandchildren, and currently reside in Farmington, Utah.
