A Little Miracle Answers Elders' Prayers to See Apostle

  • 31 October 2012

Elder Guente, Sister Annette Curtis, senior missionary in the Area Office, and Elder Bene.

Elder Alexandre Bene and Elder Inacio Guente completed honourable two year missions in Angola in mid-October.  Excited to return to families in Mozambique, they had an extended lay-over in Johannesburg.  Being aware of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland’s and Elder L. Whitney Clayton’s visit to the Africa Southeast Area at that time, they hoped by some miracle to be able to meet them.

Elder Dale G. Renlund, president of the Africa Southeast Area, greeted the elders in the courtyard of the Area Office while they were awaiting transportation to the airport.  Just then a car pulled up, and to the amazement of Elders Bene and Guente, out stepped Elder Jeffrey R. Holland and Elder L. Whitney Clayton!

Elder Holland embraced each elder and thanked them for their service.  He talked with them briefly about their missions, he then entered the office.  Immediately afterward the car arrived to take the elders to their flight home.

The prayers of two humble missionaries had been answered.  Have miracles ceased?  No, “...the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen.” (1 Nephi 1:20)
