“We hope viewers will ask themselves three questions: What do you see? What is significant about the artwork? And how would the artwork be different if …?” —Stacie Lusk, museum educator

A new virtual Book of Mormon exhibit on the Church History Museum website—“A Mighty Change in Your Hearts”—has been added to the Book of Mormon series of online exhibits featuring stories and teachings from the Book of Mormon.

The series is meant to grant wider access to the collections and, most importantly, supplement members’ study of the Book of Mormon this year. Selected from the museum’s collection, the pictures may be downloaded and are perfect for the Sunday School teacher who would like to add variety and texture to their lessons.

“Some of the exhibits in the series are preexisting—things we’ve done in the past,” explains Stacie Lusk, museum educator, “such as ‘Scenes from the Land of Promise.’ However, this year we’re adding five or six new exhibits. Two of these have already been published: ‘The Vision of the Tree of Life’ and ‘The Journey of Lehi’s Family.’

“My favorite section of that exhibit is about personal conversion and includes images of artworks of Enos and Alma the Younger,” Sister Lusk says. “Specifically, I like David Chapman Lindsay’s monoprint titled Enos. This artwork is a part of a series in which Lindsay explores the connection between the physical and spiritual nature of spiritual experiences. For each of the pieces in this series Lindsay drew an image on his hand or hand and forearm. Lindsay then pressed his hand to paper to transfer the image. This technique creates a fascinating connection between the physical and spiritual aspects of an experience.”

The power of the Book of Mormon and the glory of God’s promises to all His people are exemplified in these beautiful pieces of art. The Church History Department hopes the online series will enrich the study and learning experiences of members worldwide. “We hope viewers will ask themselves three questions: What do you see?  What is significant about the artwork? And how would the artwork be different if …?” Sister Lusk concludes.

Watch for additional exhibits to be published in the near future.
