The Saturday afternoon session of the 186th Semiannual General Conference at the Conference Center in Salt Lake City on Saturday, October 1, 2016.

During the Saturday afternoon session of 186th Semiannual General Conference on October 1, President Henry B. Eyring, First Counselor in the First Presidency, presented the names of general Church leaders for the members' sustaining votes.
Four General Authority Seventies were released and granted emeritus status—Elders Daniel L. Johnson, Jairo Mazzagardi, Kent F. Richards, and Francisco J. Viñas.

Two Area Seventies—Bhanu K. Hiranandani and Sandino Roman—were called, while Elder Alan R. Walker, an Area Seventy serving in the Mexico Area, was released.
President Eyring also noted the passing of Elder Per G. Malm who was serving as a General Authority Seventy at the time of his death. Elder Malm died in July following a battle with cancer. President Eyring expressed love and heartfelt condolences to Elder Malm’s wife and family.
Four members of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles spoke during the session, including Elders Quentin L. Cook, Gary E. Stevenson, D. Todd Christofferson, and Dallin H. Oaks. Elders Kazuhiko Yamashita, and W. Mark Bassett, General Authority Seventies, also offered remarks.
Among other things, Church members were encouraged to be valiant in their testimonies of Jesus Christ, to keep the commandments, and to share the message of the restored gospel.
President Thomas S. Monson presided over the session while President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, conducted.
A choir comprised of missionaries serving in the Provo Missionary Training Center, directed by Ryan Eggett and Elmo Kick, provided music for the session, accompanied by organists Linda Margetts and Bonnie Goodliffe.
