Elder Richard G. Scott and Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Elder L. Tom Perry will begin radiation treatment this morning after being diagnosed with cancer in the thyroid gland.

Elder Richard G. Scott, age 86, was hospitalized Thursday evening, April 23, due to gastrointestinal bleeding.  The bleeding was brought under control and he is resting comfortably.

According to Church spokesman Eric Hawkins, Elder Perry was hospitalized April 22 for tests and observation following some breathing difficulties but was released later that evening. Elder Perry is the second most senior Apostle in terms of length of service in the Quorum of the Twelve, and at age 92 is the oldest living Apostle.

Elder Scott has served in the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles since October 1, 1988.

A statement on MormonNewsroom.org says both leaders are grateful for the prayers and kindnesses expressed on their behalf.
