Elder Soares Called to Presidency of Seventy

The First Presidency announced in a letter dated December 6, 2012, the call of Elder Ulisses Soares as a member of the Presidency of the Seventy, replacing Elder Walter F. González, who has been called to serve as President of the South America South Area. Elder Soares’s responsibilities in the Presidency of the Seventy will include supervision of the work of the Church in the North America Southeast Area. Both Elder Soares’s and Elder González’s new assignments will be effective January 6, 2013.

Effective that same date, Elder Soares will be released from his assignment as First Counselor in the Africa Southeast Area Presidency. Elder Carl B. Cook of the Seventy will serve as First Counselor in that Area Presidency, and Elder Colin H. Bricknell, an Area Seventy, will serve as Second Counselor.
