Resources for teaching the 2017 Mutual theme for the youth of the Church—which focuses on the importance of praying and asking God in faith—are now live on LDS.org. Youth leaders can find the poster, music album, and other materials at youth.lds.org.
Each year a scripture is chosen as the Churchwide focus for youth. Throughout 2017, youth will have the opportunity to memorize and apply the teachings found in James 1:5–6: “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”
“This scripture has such a great message, said Sister Bonnie L. Oscarson, Young Women General President. “It says, 'Ask in faith, nothing wavering' (James 1:6). This is particularly poignant. You need to ask in faith, not in doubt.”
Brother Stephen W. Owen, Young Men General President, added, “With all of the social media and search engines we have, there are a lot of sources where you could turn to get answers for your questions of faith. This key scripture shows Joseph Smith’s process of revelation, which is a model we can follow.”
The mutual theme will be used in For the Strength of Youth (FSY) conferences around the world and can also be used in camps, youth activities, firesides, Sunday lessons, and Mutual opening exercises. T-shirts, posters, and other resources are now available on youth.lds.org for youth leaders to use.
Download the English 2017 Mutual theme album—with songs written and performed by youth from the United States and Mexico—on Youth.lds.org, or stream it on Youth.lds.org, Apple Music, Spotify, and YouTube (in English, Spanish, and Portuguese)
