The Friend magazine is adding something new in 2016 that parents and young children are guaranteed to “flip” for: Friend Junior—a new section containing 10 pages of stories and activities specifically for younger children, found on the flip side of the Church’s popular children’s magazine.
Sister Rosemary M. Wixom, Primary general president, hopes grandparents, parents, and older siblings will take time to experience Friend Junior with the young children in their lives.
Friend Junior is the latest evolution in the magazine’s efforts to provide age-appropriate content for the younger generation. Many parents have questions about how to teach the gospel to very young children. Having what is essentially two magazines in one will make it easier for parents and children to find the content that best fits their needs.
A new page called “For Parents of Little Ones” provides helpful teaching tips on a variety of topics. For example, the January issue offers ways parents can help make church more meaningful for their young children.
Each month, Friend Junior will include an illustration of the Savior, a rebus story, a simple activity, a coloring page, a Book of Mormon story, and a simplified story for beginning readers. The Book of Mormon story will also be available in the Liahona each month.
“We hope this new section will create many warm, happy experiences in gospel learning for young children and those who love them,” Sister Wixom said.
