The First Presidency of the Church announced December 7 that groundbreaking services for the Barranquilla Colombia Temple will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016.

Elder Juan A. Uceda of the Area Presidency will preside at the ceremony, which traditionally involves turning over shovels of dirt to signal the beginning of construction.

Attendance at the site will be by invitation only and services will be transmitted via Internet to stake centers within the temple district. Local leaders will provide additional information for the groundbreaking ceremony in the coming weeks.

After the temple is completed, open house dates will be announced so the public can tour the temple before it is  dedicated. The dedication date will also be announced.

This will be the second temple in the South American nation. The first one is located in Bogota.

President Thomas S. Monson announced the Barranquilla Colombia Temple during the Church’s October 2011 general conference.
