At Church invitation, a high-ranking Vietnam delegation from Hanoi visited Church headquarters October 2 through October 5.

Led by His Excellency Mr. Pham Dung, chairman of the Vietnam Government Committee for Religious Affairs, the delegation also included Mr. Nguyen Duc Vinh, general director of international relations; Mr. Nguyen Huu Duc, deputy chief of CRA office, clerk for Mr. Chairman; Mrs. Thieu Thi Huong, deputy general director, Protestant Department; and Mr. Nguyen Cong Huyen, chief editor of Religious Businesses Magazine of CRA.

The delegation held official talks with Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles and Elder Gerrit W. Gong of the Seventy and Asia Area President at the Church Administration Building.

The dinner honoring the delegation at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building featured Vietnamese songs by the International Children’s Choir. Also present at the dinner was Congressman Eni Faleomavaega.

On October 3, the delegation was received by Governor Gary R. Herbert, who also chairs the National Governors Association, and First Lady Jeanette Herbert, at the Governor’s Mansion in Salt Lake City.

The delegation visited several sites of cultural, historic, and religious significance. These included This Is the Place Heritage Park, Park City, LDS Conference Center, LDS Humanitarian Center, Brigham Young University, and churches in the Salt Lake community.

The purpose of the delegation visit was to deepen understanding and cooperation during this 20th anniversary year of Vietnam–U.S. diplomatic relations.
