  • Mormon Messages has received upward of 18 million views since its creation in 2008.

With upward of 18 million views, Mormon Messages is the most sought-after material on the Mormon Channel.

Mormon Messages began in 2008 after an unidentified member of the Church posted an Easter message by Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles on YouTube, said Garin Granata, product manager in the Church Media Services Department.

The video received a few thousand views on YouTube very quickly, catching the attention of David Nielson, managing director of what was then the Audiovisual Department. The online response gave Brother Nielson the idea of creating similar videos for YouTube with the intent that members would share them with their family and friends, Brother Granata said.

“Right away Media Services saw this as an opportunity to share messages of the Brethren with people … all over the world,” Brother Granata said.

Elder Holland’s Easter message still receives anywhere from 5,000 to 10,000 views per day; it has become the most-viewed video to date. Currently, 61 Mormon Messages cover a variety of gospel topics, but all share the message that Latter-day Saints believe in and follow Jesus Christ.

Videos are created using messages from General Authorities of the Church blended with compelling stories that illustrate gospel principles, Brother Granata said. Some videos, such as an eight-minute feature about Stephanie Nielson, who survived a plane crash, show the gospel in action in the lives of Church members.

Mormon Messages is available on YouTube as well as on mormonchannel.org.
