Mormon Tabernacle Choir Seeking New Singers
Members of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir volunteer between 10 and 20 hours a week rehearsing and are either in the Tabernacle or on tour 140 to 150 days a year.

The Mormon Tabernacle Choir is holding auditions to round out its 360-member ensemble.
The first phase, which begins this week and closes on August 15, requires new singers to fill out an application and submit an a cappella recording of one of three hymns. The choir’s music director, Mack Wilberg, and associate music director, Ryan Murphy, will then review the recordings.
Those selected to move on to the second phase will take a written skills test that measures musical ability and aptitude. Those who score 80 percent or better will be invited for an in-person audition to demonstrate their sight-reading skills, vocal range, and ability to blend.
Final selections will then be made, and selected singers will become part of the Temple Square Chorale for three months for additional training. After completing the chorale’s final exam, new members graduate to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
From start to finish, the entire process takes 10 months.
“We invite all people who would like to sing with the choir to submit their applications for consideration,” Brother Wilberg said. “Each year we continue to be pleased with the high level of musical expertise displayed by choir applicants and look forward to meeting them during the audition process.”
Candidates must be between 25 and 55 years old, live within a 100-mile radius of Temple Square, and be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in good standing.
