“Standing in holy places is about being where the Holy Ghost can be.” —Sister Elaine S. Dalton, Young Women general president

The New Era wants to hear how youth are fulfilling the 2013 Mutual theme, which encourages youth to “stand ye in holy places, and be not moved” (D&C 87:8).

The magazine is asking youth across the world to send photos of themselves standing in holy places along with an explanation of why that place is holy.

Several youth have already shared responses, including “the desk where I paint,” “my room where I read my scriptures,” and “the beach where I take time to ponder.”

The temple, Church meetinghouses, and homes can all be sacred places where individuals can feel the Spirit and grow closer to their Father in Heaven. In addition, standing in holy places can mean finding places to nurture spirituality and pursue “anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report” (Articles of Faith 1:13).

Speaking about the new theme, Sister Elaine S. Dalton, Young Women general president, stated, “Standing in holy places is about being where the Holy Ghost can be. It is about living the standards in For the Strength of Youth. It is about being worthy to enter the Lord’s temples.”

To launch this call for photos, the New Era magazine published four different covers for the January issue. Each cover featured a youth standing in a place holy to him or her.

The different versions were distributed to wards and homes randomly with the hope that youth in the same area would receive a variety of covers.

Photos submitted may be selected to appear on ChurchofJesusChrist.org, on the New Era Facebook page, or even in an upcoming issue of the New Era.

Photos and responses should be sent to newera@ChurchofJesusChrist.org and should include name, age, location, ward and stake, and parental contact information.
