With more than 77 training clips, the new Leadership Training Library, created to supplement Handbook 2: Administering the Church, helps members learn how to lead in the Savior’s way.

Article Highlights

  • The Leadership Training Library is a new resource providing short video clips that expand the principles taught in Handbook 2: Administering the Church.
  • A total of 77 clips totaling more than five hours of video are available.
  • The videos are being released initially in English; they will be available in 10 additional languages in early 2012.
  • More videos will be added to the library in coming years.

As an interactive supplement to the updated Handbook 2: Administering the Church, a landmark leadership manual introduced last year, the Priesthood Department has announced the Leadership Training Library, an online collection of short training videos that highlight the principles taught in the manual. The new resource is available now at leadershiplibrary.ChurchofJesusChrist.organd is easily accessible from most ChurchofJesusChrist.org pages by clicking on“Leadership Training Library” in the “Service” column within the standard drop-down menu.

The exclusively online library features 77 brief training clips—totaling more than five hours—that demonstrate the principles of leadership found in Handbook 2.

The videos, each between one and eight minutes in length, are grouped together according to Church organization, similar to how Handbook 2 is ordered. Videos for organizations include:

Core training segments focused on leadership principles taught by the Savior are also available on the site. These videos teach how to “Prepare Spiritually,” “Participate in Councils,” “Minister to Others,” and “Teach the Gospel,” each a principle explained in the handbook’s Chapter 3—“Leadership in the Church of Jesus Christ.”

Some videos included in the new training library contain clips of sermons or training given by Latter-day prophets and other Church leaders.

One such clip is “Sugar Beets and the Worth of a Soul,” an eight-minute segment that features President Thomas S. Monson narrating his First Presidency Message of the same title from the July 2009 Ensign and Liahona. In the video President Monson teaches that less-active young women in the Church have as much value to the Lord as do the others, similar to how sugar beets that slip from a filled truck still have as much sugar as do those still in the truck.

Another message comes from Julie B. Beck, Relief Society general president, in a recent training broadcast from Brigham Young University–Idaho, where she taught that Relief Society presidents can help magnify the calling of the bishop or branch president.

These select training clips, some of which are appearing on ChurchofJesusChrist.org for the first time, are included as a part of each organization’s available videos under the “Messages from Leaders” video category.

Users may download the clips to share in Church training meetings where Internet access is not readily available. Each video references the specific text from Handbook 2 to which it is referring.

The library is initially available in English. Portions of the library will also be provided in early 2012 in Cantonese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish.

The Priesthood Department plans to add more videos to the library over time.
