R. Dean Olson, 84, Woodbridge 1st Ward, Irvine California Stake, has been called as president of the Newport Beach California Temple, succeeding President Nolan G Draney. President Olson’s wife, VaLoye Roos Olson, will serve as temple matron. Formerly first counselor in the Newport Beach California Temple Presidency, he has served as a counselor in the Stockholm Sweden Temple presidency, president of the Norway Oslo Mission, counselor in the Family and Church History Mission presidency, stake president’s counselor, bishop, high councilor and temple sealer. A retired Engineering Department manager with Ford Aerospace, he was born in Eureka, Utah, to Roland Lars and Estella Jane Goddard Olson.

Sister Olson, previously an assistant to the matron of the Newport Beach California Temple, served with her husband as he presided over the Norway Oslo Mission. She has served as assistant to the matron of the Stockholm Sweden Temple, Family and Church History missionary, stake Relief Society board member, stake Young Women board member and ward Relief Society president. She was born in Boulder City, Nev., to Joseph Leroy and Wanda Leora Clement Roos.
