Participate in the FamilySearch Worldwide Indexing Event

A worldwide indexing event, sponsored by FamilySearch and scheduled for July 15–17, invites all to help reach a goal of at least 72,000 volunteers during the 72-hour event. Every experience level is welcome—all that is needed to participate in the event is a computer and an internet connection.
FamilySearch is especially in need of volunteers who can read languages other than English because of the large number of records in other languages waiting to be indexed.
Indexing is a method of entering digitally scanned historical documents into an online database. People around the globe can then search the records for their ancestors. FamilySearch’s records are free and accessible to anyone who has access to the internet.
On the FamilySearch blog, Jim Ericson, product manager at FamilySearch, said that indexing “is a wonderful opportunity to serve people worldwide who visit FamilySearch.org to find their ancestors. Indexing is a fun and engaging way to provide meaningful service and get involved in family history.”
Those wishing to participate are encouraged to sign up on FamilySearch and download the free indexing software prior to the event.
FamilySearch is the largest genealogy organization in the world and, with thousands of volunteers, has helped to offer access to over 1 billion records online in the past decade.
