All Missionaries Safe after Powerful Earthquake in Chile

All LDS missionaries serving in impacted areas were accounted for and unharmed after a powerful 8.2-magnitude earthquake rattled northern Chile on April 1, claiming six lives and forcing the temporary evacuation of almost a million people following subsequent tsunami warnings.
There were also no reports of injuries to Latter-day Saints. Church officials at press time were still trying to determine the damage, if any, to Church buildings and member homes.
The quake struck at 8:46 p.m. local time and was centered in the Pacific Ocean 950 miles from the capital of Santiago, the United States Geological Survey reported.
Tsunami warnings forced hundreds of thousands of people to flee northern coastal areas. Warnings were lifted hours later. There were no reports of any significant wave damage.
Hardest hit by the quake was the northern port city of Iquique. Power outages and flooding were reported in the city of some 180,000 residents, according to USA Today.
