Apostles Visit Peru, Bolivia

In August Elder Dallin H. Oaks and Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints traveled to Peru and Bolivia in South America.
On Friday, August 19, Elder Andersen presided at a regional conference that brought nearly 2,500 members to the University Stake in Cochabamba, Bolivia.
His message was that throughout the world, in spite of differences from one country to another, all people struggle between good and evil.
“The difficulty in making decisions regarding mortality are exactly the same for you as they are for me,” he said. “We are here to learn how to live with faith.”
The important thing is to persevere to the end, he said. “Jesus Christ will not ask what position we held in the Church, just what we did in [that position].”
On Sunday, August 21, Elder Andersen presided over a stake conference in Jaihuaico, Bolivia
The stake president spoke, along with Cochabamba Bolivia Temple president Lee W. Crayk and Elder Andersen’s wife, Kathy. Then Elder Andersen shared greetings from President Thomas S. Monson and bore his testimony, focusing again on faith and perseverance.
“The choices in life are not between prosperity and poverty, or between fame and anonymity, but between good and evil,” he said. “We are here to learn about faith [and] obedience [and] to prove ourselves worthy to receive eternal life.”
In Peru Elder Oaks and Elder Andersen visited members in Arequipa, Cusco, Lima, and Piura. In meetings in each area, Elder Oaks and Elder Andersen took the time to try to shake every member’s hand. They also shared their testimonies with members, who filled the buildings to overflowing.
