Church Members Are Invited to Share New Book of Mormon App with Friends
Contributed By By Carolyn Carter, Church News & Events
In 1981, the Book of Mormon was made more accessible with footnotes, indices, and chapter summaries. Now, 30 years later, the Church is releasing the Book of Mormon in a new format: the Book of Mormon mobile app.
Just as print copies of the Book of Mormon are powerful tools in missionary work, the Book of Mormon app can also be effective for sharing the gospel. Church members are invited to consider how they might share the app with friends and family who might not be familiar with the Book of Mormon. Banners are available on the Church Facebook page, which members can use on their websites or blogs to let others know about the new app.
As the purpose of the new Book of Mormon app is primarily to make the text and audio recordings of the Book of Mormon accessible to those of other faiths, the app is simply a digital version of the print Book of Mormon, but without footnotes or cross-references.
A key feature of the Book of Mormon app is that it includes inline streaming of audio recordings of the Book of Mormon in five languages (English, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish).
The Book of Mormon app is designed for use on both mobile phones and tablets. Previously, it was available for Windows Mobile devices only, but it is newly available for Android, Apple, and other devices as well.
Some of the features of the Book of Mormon app include:
- text of the Book of Mormon in 32 languages.
- inline audio streaming of the Book of Mormon in five languages (English, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish).
- a reference guide that highlights many key passages about Jesus Christ, doctrines, people, places, and events in the Book of Mormon.
- search functionality.
- invitations to learn more about the Book of Mormon, chat with missionaries, and worship with LDS congregations.
