Dayton Ohio East Stake Relief Society Donates Blankets and Toys to Ronald McDonald House

Eighty women from the Relief Society organization in the Dayton Ohio East Stake met on June 21 to listen to Wendy Mitchell-Payne tell the story of Josseph’s Closet, named after her infant son who lived only 71 minutes after birth.
Over the last few months the women of the Church have spent many hours making baby blankets and soft toys. They were able to donate over 400 items to Josseph’s Closet at the Dayton Ronald McDonald House.
Additionally, four large tubs of pull tabs were collected to donate to the Ronald McDonald House to support operations. The Relief Society of the Dayton Ohio East Stake, under the direction of Nona Bailey, has supplied various items to the Dayton Ronald McDonald House over the last five years in an ongoing relationship.
Wendy Mitchell-Payne is an educator at Celina High School in Sidney, Ohio. She founded the charity Josseph’s Tears of Joy to honor her infant son after he passed in 2012. The charity collects toys for children in need and for Josseph’s Closet. Siblings of children admitted to Dayton Children’s Hospital who stay with their parents at the Ronald McDonald House can choose a blanket and soft toy for themselves from the closet. This helps comfort the children and reassures them that they are also important in the middle of a stressful family time.
The many women who participated in making and donating the items for Josseph’s Closet enjoyed giving to the children in the community.
