UPDATE: Sunday Afternoon Session, 10/7/12, 2:45 p.m.
Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles encouraged members of all ages and experience levels to become more engaged in temple and family history work, which he said “is one work divided into two parts.”
He asked members who have a large reservation of names to share them so that members of their extended family or ward and stake can help them in completing that work. (See a First Presidency letter on this same topic, sent February 29, 2012.)
Brother Russell T. Osguthorpe, Sunday School general president, then spoke about the new youth curriculum for 2013, Come, Follow Me: Learning Resources for Youth.
“The new learning resources for youth will help all who use them to understand and live the word of God,” Brother Osguthorpe taught, encouraging members to use the new resources in their homes as well as in the classroom.

UPDATE: Sunday Morning Session, 10/7/12, 10:25 a.m.
Following the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s Music and the Spoken Word broadcast, President Henry B. Eyring, First Counselor in the First Presidency, asked members to remember the Lord during difficult times: “God is not unable to see us or communicate with us, but we may be unwilling to listen or submit to His will and time,” he taught.
President Thomas S. Monson was the closing speaker of the session. He shared stories from his life that demonstrate the important blessings that come from prayer, service, and promptings from the Holy Ghost. He asked members to “take an inventory” of their life and “look specifically for blessings, large and small,” they have received.

UPDATE: Priesthood Session, 10/6/12, 6:40 p.m.
Speakers in the priesthood session of general conference spoke about the power of priesthood holders of every age and level of understanding to influence and rescue others in the home, in the Church, and in society.
“No matter what your responsibilities or circumstances may be, you and I know there is always a special joy that comes from dedicated priesthood service,” President Dieter F. Uchtdorf taught.

President Henry B. Eyring announced the following releases during the Saturday afternoon session: Elder Jay E. Jensen as a member of the Presidency of the Quorums of the Seventy and Elder Marlin K. Jensen as Church Historian and Recorder.
Elder Craig C. Christensen and Elder Steven E. Snow were called to serve, respectively, as a member of the Presidency of the Quorums of the Seventy and as Church Historian and Recorder.
Elders Keith K. Hilbig, Jay E. Jensen, Marlin K. Jensen, and Octaviano Tenorio were released as members of the First Quorum of the Seventy and designated as emeritus General Authorities.
Elders Keith R. Edwards and Larry W. Gibbons were released from the Second Quorum of the Seventy.

UPDATE Saturday Morning, 10/6/12, 1:30 p.m.
President Thomas S. Monson opened the 182nd Semiannual General Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with an announcement of new temples, a new Church policy regarding missionary service, and a call for many more senior couples.
New temples are planned for Tucson, Arizona, and Arequipa, Peru, President Monson revealed. Exact locations of the temples will be announced at a later date.
He went on to announce a new Church policy that will allow all worthy and able young men the opportunity to be recommended for missionary service at the age of 18 instead of 19. Able, worthy young women who have the desire to serve may be recommended for missionary service at the age of 19 instead of age 21. (Read more at Newsroom.)
President Monson then echoed a message he gave two years ago, calling for many more senior couples to serve: “As your circumstances allow, as you are eligible for retirement, and as your health permits, I encourage you to make yourselves available for full-time missionary service,” he said. “Both husband and wife will have great joy as together they serve our Father’s children.”

UPDATE General Relief Society Meeting, 9/29/12
The Relief Society general presidency taught about the power of Jesus Christ's Atonement to relieve sorrows and change hearts, and how understanding the Atonement can help women cleave to their covenants and provide service to others.
President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor in the First Presidency, spoke about the importance of giving and receiving service. He taught, “Caring for those in need takes a team, a loving and unified society. That is what the Lord is building among you. He loves you for any part you play.”
