Elder Lon Roberts, His Holiness Abune Paulos, and President Esubalew Alemayehu Biru.

President Esubalew Alemayehu Biru, Ethiopia Addis Ababa District President; and Elder and Sister Roberts, Africa Southeast Area Public Affairs missionaries, had an audience with His Holiness Abune Paulos, Abune and Patriarch of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

“We are brothers in Christ, and we must work together…” His Holiness commented.  The audience took place on 26 June 2012 in His Holiness’ office in Addis Ababa.

Elder Roberts said, “It was a special treat to meet with this respected church leader of Ethiopia and the World Council of Churches.”  Elder Roberts hopes for more future interaction between The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

There are currently four branches of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Ethiopia Addis Ababa District where President Biru presides.  A second Church building is under construction.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church has about 45 million members.  Besides being leader of the Church, His Holiness Abune Paulos is also one of the seven serving presidents of the World Council of Churches.
